Review: Juan Lopez Seleccion No 2 – Orchant Selection

juan-lopez-seleccion-no2

Another robusto sized cigar review, you can see a theme on this blog, and its my love of robusto’s. So here is my review of the Orchant selection JL No2.

Appearance 7.5/10

The cigar had a fair number of veins in the wrapper, its not an ugly cigar, but its not particularly pretty either. The wrapper was quite a dark brown, the cigar pre-light had a lovely wood smell.  The band reminded me of the Upmann bands.

Construction & Draw 8.0/10

If we look past the veins in the wrapper, the cigar is very well constructed, especially the cap, which is a fine example of excellent construction techniques. As I toasted the foot of this cigar the lovely woody hints I detected pre-light flooded out and the cigar smelled divine.

The draw to begin with was a little tight, but after a couple of minutes it opened up, the cigar produced a large quantity of delicious smelling smoke. About half way down the cigar the burn became a little uneven, and required some correction, but nothing to drastic.

Flavour 8.5/10

The cigar started off with a lovely woody taste, mixed with some spice, and I think some leather. As I smoked the cigar this changed the spice backed off, and I got hints of vanilla and caramel, lovely. I do like cigars that have a smooth but strong taste and this cigar delivered.

Value 8.0/10

This cigar is the same price as a number of other robusto’s including my current favourite the Bolivar Royal Corona, as such it offers very good value for money.

Summary 8.5/10

I liked this cigar, can you tell, this is another stick that will be sitting in my humidor next to the BRC. If you are looking for a good Robusto, and something a little different to the “obvious” choices then this is a good stick to choose. Smoke and enjoy!
